Batavia Downs recap, Wed., 7-29.
Last night was the first day of racing back at Batavia Downs, and with no fans allowed in attendance, The Stretch Drive crew made the best of it. We booked a room with a balcony view of the track, and let me tell you, it was well worth it. As you saw from pictures on our social media, it was a great view of the races and we had a blast. We highly recommend getting together with some buddies and getting yourself a suite for a night of racing, and we'll be doing it again.
- Race 7 - Pace - Fillies and Mares Open I - $10,000
Ray Fisher Jr. left with Lady London out of the 4 hole, as did Jim Morrill Jr. and HP Sissy from the 6 hole. HP Sissy lead to the opening quarter in 27.2 and the half in 56.3. That's when Mcneight pulled Julio's Girl first over. Julio's Girl (16-1) drew even with HP Sissy at the top of the stretch and powered passed for the win in 1:54.2. Gia's Surreal was the betting favorite at 6/5, and had a tough trip from post 7 but managed to get up for third. Julio's Girl paid $35.20 for a great start to the pick 4.
- Race 8 - Trot - Open I - $10.000
After the performance by Il Mago last week at Buffalo, we were looking forward to seeing what this trotter would do this week at Batavia, and he didn't disappoint. Morrill left out of the 2 hole and easily got to the front. This wasn't much of a competition as Il Mago got to the half in 57.1. There was never any pressure applied and Morrill drew away to win this one easily by four lengths in 1:56.3. An impressive performance to say the least. Il Mago paid $2.80. Looks like a great purchase for owner Michael Torcello and trainer Gerry Sarama.
The crew actually had a pretty good night picking winners and gambling as well. Mike and PC combined to pick 13 winners total. PC's Best Bet, Edom Up Blue Boy, won the 4th race paying $2.30. The exacta combo of 5-2 paid a decent $10.40. He also had the winners in races 8, 9, and 10. Mike picked the 12th race exacta, giving out an $8 winner, Cashco. The 1-4 exacta paid $17. Mike also had the winners of races 8,9, and 11. We also gave out the late pick 3 of 1-1-5 and it paid $152.50. Overall it was a winning night for us, and we hope it was for you too. Let's keep the momentum going into Friday night at Batavia Downs. Thanks for following.
