Recap of NYSS at Vernon Downs Sat, 7-4
Vernon Downs hosted the New York Sire Stakes on Saturday, July 4th. The first 10 races on the card were all Stakes races and there was some great action on the track. It really is something special to see all these awesome drivers at one track on the same day. Let's highlight a couple races and then we'll see how Mike and PC did picking.
- Race 6 - Trot - Empire Breeders Classic 3 YO Colts and Geldings
- 1st Division - $97,750
Hobbs left from the 5 hole and Jason Bartlett went to the quarter in 27.2 before the 1A, Barn Holden took the lead. Hobbs was content to sit the two hole trip while the 2, Take The Credit applied all the pressure going first over. Bartlett pulled Hobbs at the 3/4 pole and got up for the win over Take The Credit. Hobbs was a nice price, going off 7-1 for the upset victory.
- Race 10 - Trot - Empire Breeders Classic 3 YO Fillies
- $207,250
Brian Sears and Hypnotic Am left casually from the 9 hole and stayed parked past the 1/4 in 27.2. Hypnotic eventually cleared and got to the front down the backstretch. The fillies were five wide around the last turn and coming at Hypnotic Am but Sears turned away all challengers and won this one pretty easy in 1:53.4. PC and Mike have both loved this one from the start and she keeps proving them right.
Now let's get to the gambling. PC gave out five winners and Mike gave out three. As we all know, these are some of the best races to watch, and some of the hardest to cap, but we think we did ok on the day. The guys Best Bets both came through for us again. PC gave out the exacta in race 2, picking 1-2. The combo paid $8.90, not bad with the chalk on top. PC also picked Hobbs in race 6. This was a nice score as Hobbs paid $17.20 for the W. Big Mike picked the winner is races 3, 7, and 10, including the ex and tri key in the 10th. We hope we did enough to make everyone some money on the day. It was a fun one with Vernon racing at 1pm and Buffalo following at 6pm. Again, thanks for following and let's get the money.
